environmental problems on the philipines

...Location: Manicani Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Philippines Manicani is a small island in the beautiful Municipality of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Guiuan is a 3hr ride by land from the region's capital (Tacloban City), and approximately 30min ride by a bangka from Guiuan proper. The island is inhabited by more or less 100 families that primarily depends their livelihood on fishing and farming. The island is rich in its marine wealth with its prestine crystal clear waters, diverse species of sea grasses, corals, mangroves, and fishes. Now, this small island (approximately 12km in circumference) has been greatly abused because of its rich mineral deposit of nickel ore. The saga of mining in Manicani Island has caused much chaos to the inhabitants; in fact, two lives have been lost already, one was a child and the other an engineer....
